Ancienne médina de Casablanca

About this site

Largely rebuilt after the 1755 Lisbon earthquake that devastated the region, Casablanca's old medina preserves a traditional urban fabric more modest than those of Fès or Marrakech, but authentic in its commercial, working-class character. Close to the port and the Sqala, it offers a striking contrast with the modern towers that now line the city's seafront.
