Built in the late 17th century under Sultan Moulay Ismail, the Agdal Basin — or Sahrij Swani, "basin of the norias" — is a roughly 4-hectare reservoir fed by the adjoining House of the Ten Norias next to Heri es-Souani. Designed as a strategic water reserve for the city and army during a prolonged siege, it also served as a small pleasure-boating pond. Together with the neighboring granary complex, it forms part of the site inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the historic city of Meknes since 1996.
