About this site

Built at the same time as the city, the South Bastion — nicknamed the "Belvedere" — extends Essaouira's fortifications near the fishing harbor. Its original defensive role has given way to a popular viewpoint over the port activity and the ocean, one of the city's many bastions now repurposed as observation or cultural spaces.
