About this site
Located outside the medina, on the hillside southeast of the city, the Jewish cemetery of Chefchaouen is considered one of the oldest in Morocco, with plain tombstones probably dating back to the 16th century. Distinct from the Muslim cemetery of Sidi Abdelhamid, it bears witness to the significant Jewish community that lived in the city until the last Jewish residents left for Israel in 1968.
