About this site
Built in 1765, the Danish Consulate is the oldest consulate built at the request of Sultan Mohammed Ben Abdallah, founder of Essaouira, and one of the largest historic buildings in the medina. It reflects the city's role as an international port open to European nations from the 18th century onward — a commercial and diplomatic vocation that shaped its cosmopolitan architecture.
