Recognizable by its unusual octagonal minaret — a rarity in Morocco — the Great Mosque of Chefchaouen borders Outa el Hammam square, directly facing the Kasbah. As with most active Moroccan mosques, its interior is reserved for Muslims, but its architecture — blending Andalusian and Rif influences — can be admired from the square. Together with the Kasbah, it remains one of the two landmarks that anchor the historic heart of the city.
