Known as the Almohad Great Mosque, this nearly 5,000 m² building is considered one of the largest mosques in Morocco after Hassan II in Casablanca and Al Quaraouiyine in Fès. With eight gates, it served in the early 20th century as one of the platforms of resistance against colonial forces. It stands next to the Merinid medersa, forming with it the monumental heart of the city.
