About this site
Opened in 1670 under the Alaouite dynasty, the Cherratine Medersa differs from Fès's other Merinid medersas through its more sober and functional style, designed to accommodate a large number of students. Less ornate than Bou Inania or Al-Attarine, it nonetheless testifies to the continuity of Fès's role as a center of religious learning across successive dynasties.
