About this site
The Mellah is the former Jewish quarter of Chefchaouen's medina, home to a community established since the city's early centuries. The last Jewish residents of Chefchaouen left the quarter for Israel in 1968. According to some local accounts, it was here that the blue dyes characteristic of the city were first introduced by its Jewish inhabitants.
