Bordering Place Hassan II, the heart of the modern town, the Royal Palace of Tétouan is not open to visitors, but its architecture commands respect from the outside. A former residence of the sultan, it embodies the continuity of Alaouite power in a city that was, between 1913 and 1956, the capital of the Spanish protectorate in Morocco.
