A circular square at the heart of the Ensanche, the district built by the Spanish during the protectorate, Place Moulay El Mehdi (formerly Plaza Primo de Rivera) illustrates the colonial urbanism that coexists in Tétouan with the UNESCO-listed Andalusian medina. Lined with Art Deco buildings and cafés, it remains today a central landmark for residents.
