Less known than Lixus or Tamuda, the ancient site of Cotta was among the Roman settlements that dotted Morocco's northern coast facing the Strait of Gibraltar. The remaining ruins — associated notably with a fish-salting activity, as at Lixus — shed light on the trade network that connected this region to the wider ancient Mediterranean world.
