The Skala de la Ville is Essaouira's most emblematic rampart, lined with old bronze cannons pointed toward the ocean. Built in the 18th century to protect the city from naval attacks, it now offers one of the finest walks in town, between crenellated walls and panoramic views over the harbor and Mogador Island. It is also one of Essaouira's most photographed settings, notably used as a film location.
