Structured around the zawiya of this 16th-century Sufi saint, the Soumâa district forms, alongside the old medina, the other listed historic core of Beni Mellal. The zawiya played an important role in regional religious life during the Saadian and Alaouite periods, making this hillside district a still-living spiritual place.
