Dating from the Almoravid era and restored in 1999, the minaret of the Soumâa mosque is one of the oldest architectural elements preserved in Beni Mellal, predating the founding of the fortified city by Moulay Ismaïl. It bears witness to an urban presence in the region well before the rise of the 17th-century Alaouite city.
