About this site

About ten kilometres south of Ouarzazate, the Fint Oasis takes its name from the Amazigh 'n'fint', which literally means 'the hidden one'. This ribbon of greenery emerges amid a striking mineral landscape, between arid mountains and black volcanic rock — a contrast that makes it one of the most photogenic destinations in the region.

The oasis brings together four small hamlets (variously transcribed as Wangarf, Taherbilt, Timoula and Belghizi depending on the source) strung along the Fint river, whose water has for generations supported the cultivation of palm trees, oleanders and subsistence crops. The old village, built into the hillside for protection, is now partly in ruins and still overlooks the palm grove; today's dwellings cluster lower down, near the water.

Far from the main tourist circuits, Fint is best explored on foot or by mountain bike from Ouarzazate, through a Berber community known for its hospitality. It's a natural getaway that pairs perfectly with the region's kasbahs and film studios — best suited to those with a full day to spare.
