About this site
Restored in 1769 under Sultan Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah — the same ruler who founded Essaouira —, the Sqala is a former defensive fortress equipped with cannons, built to protect Casablanca's port from naval attacks. Now converted into a dining and strolling space, it retains its thick walls and original fortified atmosphere.
