About this site

Dar Al Batha, a former royal palace built in the late 19th century under Sultan Moulay Hassan I and completed under Moulay Abdelaziz around 1897, stands just steps from Bab Boujloud, between Fes el-Bali and Fes Jdid. Originally designed for receptions and as a summer residence, this Hispano-Moorish palace organises its spaces around a vast garden in the Moroccan-Andalusian tradition.

Converted into a museum as early as 1915 and designated a historic monument in 1924, the site has housed for over a century a remarkable collection of Fez craftsmanship — blue ceramics, zellige, carved wood, embroidery, Andalusian musical instruments and ancient astrolabes. After several years of restoration, the palace reopened to the public on 26 February 2025, inaugurated by King Mohammed VI as part of the rehabilitation programme for the Fez medina, under a new identity: the Al Batha Museum of Islamic Arts.
