About this site
Installé dans le Fondouk Nejjarine, un ancien caravansérail construit en 1711 pour héberger marchands et marchandises de luxe, le Musée Nejjarine des Arts et Métiers du Bois ouvre ses portes en 1998 dans l'un des plus beaux édifices restaurés de la médina de Fès. Réparti sur trois niveaux autour d'une cour centrale baignée de lumière, il explore l'artisanat du bois marocain à travers trois thématiques : le bois d'architecture, le bois domestique et le bois liturgique — portes sculptées, coffres incrustés, instruments de musique, outils de menuiserie et même certaines portes historiques de la Médersa Bou Inania.
La visite se termine idéalement par une pause au salon de thé installé sur la terrasse du bâtiment, qui offre l'une des plus belles vues sur les toits de la médina et la mosquée Al Quaraouiyine toute proche. Juste devant le fondouk, la fontaine Nejjarine, magnifiquement sculptée, est elle-même l'un des monuments remarquables de la place.
