Address and access

Address: Northern medina, Marrakech — main entrance from Jemaa el-Fna (arch on the north side of the square)

From Jemaa el-Fna square, cross the arch to the north — you enter directly into Souk Semmarine, the main artery of the souks.

How to get there:

  • On foot from Jemaa el-Fna: immediate entrance to the north
  • From Ben Youssef Madrasa: exit to the south — you're in the souks within 5 min
  • The souks are in the heart of the medina: accessible on foot from everywhere

Opening hours

Generally: 9:00 am – 8:00 pm

Variations:

  • Friday morning: some craftsmen close for Friday prayer (11am–1pm)
  • Sunday: a few shops closed, reduced activity
  • Full activity: Monday–Thursday, 10am–6pm

Prices

Entirely free access — the souks are a public space.

How to find your way

The maze of souks is difficult to navigate without landmarks. Tips:

  • Download Maps.me (offline) before entering — Google Maps works poorly in the covered alleys
  • The main arteries always lead toward Jemaa el-Fna or Bab Doukkala
  • Landmark: the spice souk is halfway between Jemaa el-Fna and the Madrasa
