Palais de la Bahia

The Bahia Palace, an extraordinary historic monument of Marrakech, covers 8 hectares. It was built in two phases in the second half of the 19th century: from 1894, Ba Ahmed, son of Si Moussa, enlarged the family residence by joining several houses together, and the construction of the palace took six years, from 1894 to 1900. A set of courtyards, gardens, rooms, outbuildings and annexes, it also included a Moorish bath, treasure rooms and an Agdal. Made up of four main courtyards decorated by the finest Moroccan craftsmen (marble, mashrabiya, zellige, stained glass, carved wood, paintings and stucco), it became in 1912 the residence of the French Resident General in Marrakech.

Good to know: restoration works are under way in several monuments in Marrakech. Some parts of the palace may be temporarily closed to the public or rearranged; the official ticket office does not list the accessible areas, so check before your visit.
