Souk El Had d'Agadir

Agadir's great market, rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake

About this site

Agadir's Souk El Had took its present form after the 1960 earthquake: rebuilt on perpendicular streets, it is less of a maze than other Moroccan souks. Shops are grouped by trade guilds and almost every product is sold: food, crafts, textiles, carpets, cosmetics and jewellery. Its name recalls Sunday (“had”), the traditional market day; some sources say the traders rest on Mondays. The surface areas and shop numbers quoted vary greatly between sources, so they are not repeated here. Remember to bargain and allow time for photos.
