Casablanca is a large, sprawling city: the district where you stay changes your trip a lot. There is no one right choice for everyone, only the choice that suits your trip. This guide to where to stay in Casablanca compares districts according to what matters to you: length of stay, budget, closeness to the sights, access to the airport, restaurants, nightlife, the sea or business.
It doesn't list hotels: it helps you choose an area, then choose accommodation using the right criteria.
How to choose your district in Casablanca
Ask yourself five questions:
- How long are you staying? For one or two nights, being close to the monuments comes first.
- What do you want to see? Heritage, medina, Art Deco, the sea, shopping?
- How will you get around? On foot in the centre, by taxi, by tram?
- What pace do you want in the evening? Restaurants, going out, quiet?
- Do you have an early or late flight? Airport access then weighs in the choice.
The main districts to stay in Casablanca
City centre and Sidi Belyout
For: a first visit, Art Deco architecture, being near shops and restaurants, easy getting around. The city centre and the Sidi Belyout district, which includes the old medina, bring together several sights within one to two kilometres as the crow flies: Place Mohammed V, the old medina, the Central Market and the Hassan II Mosque. It is the most practical area for visiting on foot or by short taxi ride. See our Casablanca Art Deco route to make the most of this location.
Maarif
For: restaurants, shopping, an urban stay, a modern atmosphere. Maarif is a lively district, about 2 km from Place Mohammed V as the crow flies. It suits travellers who want to enjoy the restaurants and shops, with a taxi or public transport to reach the monuments.
Gauthier
For: restaurants, cafés, an urban stay, relative closeness to the centre. Gauthier is a central district, about a kilometre from Place Mohammed V as the crow flies. It is appreciated for its restaurants and cafés while staying close to the centre.
Ain Diab and the Corniche
For: a seaside stay, restaurants, going out, being near the sea. Ain Diab, on the Corniche, is about 6 km from the centre as the crow flies: another world, turned towards the ocean. It suits you if the sea, the beach and evenings matter more than being close to the monuments. To sightsee, plan on a taxi or public transport (tram line T2 goes as far as Aïn Diab).
Habous and Mers Sultan
For: being close to the New Medina, crafts, cultural discovery, a more residential stay depending on the property. Habous and Mers Sultan are about 3 km from the centre as the crow flies. The upside: the Habous quarter, its souks and pastry shops are on your doorstep. The downside: a taxi or public transport to reach the centre, depending on traffic. See our guide to the Habous quarter.
Business district and Casa Finance City
For: business travellers, business stays, being close to offices. Casa Finance City is about 5 km from the centre as the crow flies. It is a business district: it suits work trips, much less a sightseeing visit on foot.

Mohammed V airport
For: a layover, a very early departure, a late arrival, a connection. The airport is more than 20 km from all the districts above, as the crow flies. It is not a tourist district: it only makes sense if transfer time matters more than sightseeing. See the dedicated section below.

What budget for accommodation in Casablanca?
Accommodation prices vary greatly with the date, season, availability, category and booking conditions (cancellation, breakfast included or not). The sources you find online give ranges that don't agree: so we don't publish a price.
To get your bearings, think in categories:
| Category | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Budget | Hostels, simple guesthouses, basic hotels: reduced services |
| Mid-range | Standard-comfort hotels, often well located |
| Upper range | Higher-end hotels, more complete services |
| Luxury | Top-end properties, with the highest level of services |
To find the real price of a night, compare offers for your exact dates on a booking platform.
Hotels, guesthouses and apartments
MoroccoMuseum doesn't yet offer a selection of accommodation: this page helps you choose an area and criteria, not a property. To choose a type of accommodation, check:
- Hotel: reception, services, breakfast, often near transport.
- Furnished apartment: more space, a kitchen, but no reception.
- Guesthouse or riad: fewer properties, a more local atmosphere: check the exact location and access by car or taxi.
Where to stay according to your profile
| Profile | Area to look at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First visit | City centre / Sidi Belyout | Monuments within reach, simple getting around |
| Beach and going out | Ain Diab / Corniche | Near the sea, restaurants, evenings |
| Business stay | Casa Finance City and business districts | Close to offices |
| Layover | Airport area, or the centre with a transfer arranged in advance | Transfer time comes first |
| Crafts and culture | Habous / Mers Sultan, or the centre | Near the New Medina |
| Limited budget | Well-connected districts | Compare offers rather than choosing only by distance from the centre |
A hotel near the Hassan II Mosque
The Hassan II Mosque is on the seafront, north-west of the old medina. As the crow flies, it is about 1.5 km from the old medina, 2 km from Gauthier and Casa-Port, 3 km from Maarif and about 6 km from Ain Diab. The closest areas are therefore the old medina, Casa-Port, Gauthier and the centre.
Don't take "a few minutes' walk" for granted. Check the hotel's exact location on a map, with the walking or taxi route. To plan the visit itself (9:00 tours, dress code, prices), see our guide to visiting the Hassan II Mosque.
A hotel near Mohammed V airport
The airport is more than 20 km from the city's districts. Staying nearby only makes sense for:
- a layover or connection with little time;
- a late arrival;
- a very early departure.
If you also want to see the city, it is often simpler to stay in the centre and arrange the transfer. Links from the airport (train, Aérobus, taxi, private transfer) are detailed in our guide to Mohammed V airport, transfers and layovers. For a late arrival or a very early departure, a transfer arranged in advance can avoid surprises: see the private driver service, whose listing mentions flexible pick-up locations (airport, hotel or custom location). Check the conditions and waiting time for flight delays with the provider.
Where to stay to visit Casablanca in 2 days
The city centre, Sidi Belyout or Gauthier limit travel: most of the day-1 stops are close, and Habous is a taxi ride on day 2. See our itinerary Casablanca in two days. For a single day, see also Casablanca in one day.
Booking your hotel: what to check
Before booking, check:
- the exact location, on a map, and the real distance to the places you want to see;
- parking, if you are driving;
- breakfast: included or not;
- air conditioning;
- 24-hour reception, especially for a late arrival;
- airport transfer: offered or not, and at what price;
- the cancellation policy;
- any taxes;
- recent reviews, rather than the overall score.
