About this site
The capital of Mauretania, founded in the 3rd century BC, was an important outpost of the Roman Empire and was adorned with many fine monuments. Significant remains survive in the archaeological site of Volubilis, set in a fertile farming region. The city later became, for a brief period, the capital of Idris I, founder of the Idrisid dynasty, buried nearby at Moulay Idriss.
Book your e-ticket (electronic ticket) online: you pay the Ministry of Culture's official price plus a €1.99 service fee, and you receive your ticket and your digital guide by email, usually within 3 hours. The digital guide, included with every ticket, offers an illustrated visit guide, a narrative account and an audio reading of 9 points of interest, in five languages. The site is large and open-air: you explore the remains at your own pace, on your phone, with no group and no set schedule.
