Choosing your moment
The garden opens at 8:00 am: it is the best slot, for the cool air, the low light that makes Majorelle blue vibrate and still-quiet paths. Late afternoon is an alternative, but last entry is at 5:00 pm: allow plenty of time. Between 10 am and 3 pm attendance is highest, and the heat can be heavy in summer.
Ticketing is online only and works by time slots: book in advance, especially in high season. The Foundation's official ticket office is tickets.jardinmajorelle.com: the Foundation warns against fake ticket-selling websites, so always check the address before paying.
A 1.5-hour route
- The entrance and the central pool: the main path reveals the long pool and the water lilies.
- The cacti and the bamboo: some cacti are monumental; the bamboo offers shade.
- The blue studio: Jacques Majorelle's former painting studio, now the Pierre Bergé Museum of Berber Arts (garden + museum ticket).
- The shop and the Café Majorelle: a break before you leave.
If you want to go further, the private garden of the Villa Oasis, the former home of Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent, is open every day except Wednesday.
What not to miss
- Majorelle blue on the walls, pools and pots, best photographed early in the morning.
- The monumental cacti and the variety of plants (about 300 species).
- The Berber museum: Amazigh jewellery, clothing and objects, in the painter's studio.
- The memorial to Yves Saint Laurent at the Villa Oasis.
Recommended length of visit
1 to 1.5 hours for the garden, 2 hours with the Berber museum, half a day with the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, a few steps away.
Practical tips
- Photos: arrive at opening time; avoid the middle of the day, when the sun flattens the colours and the paths fill up.
- Heat: water, a hat and sunscreen in summer; shade is limited outside the bamboo and the pergolas.
- Families: accompanied children under 10 enter free of charge; the paths are flat.
